Equipment for Golden Dorado is straightforward. I recommend an 8 or 9-weight rod coupled with a quality reel with a smooth drag and 100 yards of backing. 

As with any travel trip, bringing an extra rod and reel is a good idea in the event of an accident. Equipment is available at the lodge at no charge should you need it.

A floating line is your primary line.  Depending on river conditions, you might consider having some sinking leaders (such as the RIO Versileaders ).

Long casts are not necessary. Accuracy is key as flies cast within inches of the bank and other structures are an essential factor.  I recommend RIO’s Tropical Predator and Outbound Short lines.

You should have a half-dozen Toothy Critter Leaders, each featuring a 30-pound wire bite tippet.  A spool of 30-pound bit tippet, along with RIO’s Twist clips, is also recommended.

Fly selection is simple; Andino’s Deceivers or MFC’s Jungle Juice patterns in black, black/red, black/orange, black/chartreuse and black/purple are excellent streamer choices.  Surface poppers that create an excessive disturbance also draw an explosive response.
